MAZZIE MEOTTI

Artist Statement

"Today’s opportunity to make art in conversation with other artists is to share the human experience. Color, light, pattern, and rhythm are ingrained in all of us; whether we appreciate the unremarkable in the moment or not. We often move so quickly that flashes of energy are tucked away in our subconscious, becoming something more emotional and less tangible. Through exploratory intuitive painting, I interpret the physical environment around me, bridging thoughts between what I know, how to paint, and what I feel.

An essential part of being a contemporary artist is staying open and receptive to what is being made as the same time as you, as well as what came before you. Learning the languages other artists are speaking with their work has taught me, as well as my classmates, how to be inspired, how to care, and how to take all of this and begin. From filling a sketchbook a semester, to spending as much time regularly in the studio as possible, to getting feedback from peers and role models, there are countless and much needed ways to develop a balanced practice that parallels my life and all of its exciting or quiet moments,".
